WHAT IS MEANT BY "TOOLS" ?

"A tool is, amongst other things, a device that provides an advantage in accomplishing a task."
 

I use software applications, such as those within Microsoft OfficeŠ, (Access, Excel, Word etc) to develop tools that are tailored for a specific business and for a particular task. 

  Typically the task may be one that is performed repeatedly during the business cycle and is currently performed with a lot of manual intervention, possibly by a specialist with technical knowledge, incurring both time and cost overheads for the business. By automating the process these overheads can be reduced, saving time and money through increased efficiency, and removing any necessity for specialist knowledge.

Each tool is developed with the end USER in mind. The ease of use is tested by providing the USER with the specific tool and allowing them to use it with no help. If there is any misunderstanding or the user has difficulty, then this is generally resolved by a design modification.
